About us

Planet Yoga is an exclusive Yoga and Pilates Studio, established in 2004, dedicated to the overall well-being of our clients, located in the historical "Hürlimann Areal" in Zurich-Enge. We are easily reached by tram, bus or car. We are near the station and there is parking available on our premises.

Our mission is to bring Yoga to people of Zurich and to provide the possibility of experiencing Yoga in a non-dogmatic and easy accessible way, well adapted to our modern lifestyles. Our main concern is to create a feeling of community and to become a meeting place for all Yoga interested people. A minimum of 23 lessons, 7 days a week give our students a wide variety of styles and teachers to choose from, offering something for every need. Everyone is welcome, no previous experience in Yoga or Pilates is needed! The only requirement is overall good health (no serious health conditions) since we do not offer any therapeutic Yoga or Pilates lessons.

Planet Yoga's facilities are bright and inviting and offer a serene practicing room over 3.50 m high. Our cosy reception with integrated Yoga shop allows you to relax and drink tea before and after class. Our Yoga shop offers lifestyle products for Yoga and Pilates. Integrated in our studio are comfortable changing rooms with showers behind the main Yoga room.

Planet Yoga is a "YOGA ALLIANCE" registered school and all our Yoga and Pilates teachers are highly qualified and always up to date. We are open all year round and only close our studio or reduce the schedule during official holiday.

Our primary styles of Yoga & Pilates

Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga is a perfect start into the different techniques we offer at Planet Yoga. Attending this class, you will find a peaceful atmosphere, facilitating self-observance and concentration. Starting out by sitting and quieting the mind, incorporating pranayama (breathing exercises). Warming up the muscles and stimulating the heart rate using surya namaskar/sun salutations. 12 complimentary asanas (postures) follow with variations that become more challenging as students progress. Class always ends in savasana (deep relaxation). This classical Hatha Yoga technique will quiet yet sharpen the mind, steady the breath and stretch the muscles while making them strong. Everyone is welcome, no previous experience required.

Vinyasa Yoga

Is a specific Hatha Yoga style that uses the sun salutations as a link to keep moving from one posture to the next in a continuous flow that is so specific to this style. We focus on dynamic movement sequencing, strength and coordination during the practice and we establish stamina and mental focus. Unlike in traditional Hatha Yoga, we hardly rest in between postures and focus on taking on the challenge to flow throughout. In this particular style we stimulate the cardiovascular system, cleanse the bloodstream through  specific yogic breathing exercises, in order to provide more oxygen to the body and nourish the inner organs. One chooses this style for a deeper physical workout and will find through that access to inner peace and mental calmness. Vinyasa Yoga is playful and fun and can be practiced by anybody that is willing to try. Even though this style is challenging you always take care of yourself and learn to listen to your body's needs and restrictions. More awareness is built and you can begin to transform any physical ailment into well being.

Yin Yoga

Is the most nurturing and relaxing type we offer at our studio. Yin Yoga is practiced with completely relaxed muscles, relaxes deeply within the connective tissue and the bone structure. While the nervous system is calmed and the cardiovascular system is rejuvenated and balanced, you will be diving into a space of deepest relaxation. Yin Yoga stretches down to the connective tissue and works all the way into the bone. This type of Yoga is suitable for anybody, even those who want to get into a very gentle practice. You will learn to breathe very deeply and therefore enable yourself to relax and slow down all external distractions. Retrieve into a space of deepest peace and relaxation. This type of Yoga is very suitable for all athletes, since it complements any Yang type (strenuous workout) exercises.

Pilates

The Pilates method is a training system on the mat that focuses on symmetry and alignment, stabilizing the spine, strengthening the core, the shoulders and pelvis while improving muscular flexibility as well as joint flexibility. The whole body is addressed and harmonious movements in correlation with the breath are consciously executed. Through regular training, pelvic floor, abdominals and back muscles are trained and can therefore relief back ages and physical ailments corrected or eliminated. We learn to balance out "bad habits" we have gained through work related motions or imbalanced sport activities. Through strengthening of the shoulder girdle and applying correct placement of our head we bring release to our neck. Our body will move more smoothly, discomforts dissolve and we gain a lightening sense of self. Exactly instructed motions and several different variations allow beginners as well as advanced practitioner to find a challenge and plenty of suitable exercises.
